Ginger & Date Cake

Ginger & Date loaf cake.

  • 350 g Plain Flour
  • 225 g Brown Sugar
  • 2 tsp Ground Ginger
  • 1/2 tsp Bicarb of Soda
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp All spice
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • 30 g Chopped Dates
  • 5 tbsp Treacle
  • 200 ml Water
  • 100 ml Vegetable Oil


  1. Preheat oven to 180C

  2. Add all dry ingredients first, sifting the flour as you go.  Then add the wet ingredients and mixer until you have a lovely golden cake mix.

  3. Pour into a loaf tin (or your tin of choice!) and bake for 45-50 minutes. Use a skewer to test if it's ready.  The deeper your tin, the longer you may need. If you opt for a shallow tin, cut the time to 30-40 minutes.

  4. Serve with ice cream, cream, custard.... Or just gorge on its own!
