It doesn’t matter who you are or how old you are, a decent night’s sleep is something that everybody needs but can often struggle to manage. Suffering from back problems myself, this is something I know about all too well.

With the experts telling us that the average adult should be having eight hours sleep each night, I decided to do some research and share my top tips for sleeping like a baby with you…

1: A good bed

On average we spend 25 years of our life in bed, which is why it’s important to invest in a decent one. I recently came across Adjustamatic and if, like me, you suffer with your back then one of their Electric adjustable beds would be ideal.

Actually, they recently produced a video designed to show you the best way to position yourself in bed for a better quality of sleep and health. It may be worth giving this a watch for tips on sleeping posture and how to get a peaceful night’s sleep.

2: Temperature

Having your bedroom set to a nice temperature will definitely help. On average, the room should be at 18’c but this can differ depending on whether you’re male or female (so expect arguments between you and your partner).

You can manipulate your bedrooms temperature with heating, fans, opening a window, or when choosing the material of your bedding.

3: Switch off

Now I know we’re all guilty of this but try to resist the temptation of using any devices before you go to sleep. Leave your mobile phone or tablet in the living room and try to read a book instead of watching TV in bed.

You may not realise it but the blue light they emit will keep your brain active and make it harder for you to get to sleep. It also means that when you do finally nod off, the quality of sleep will be poor and it will be harder for you to wake up in the morning.
