Over time, most of us get a little bored with our sofa and living room chairs. They are expensive items to buy, so we tend to keep them even when we redecorate, even if they do not quite fit in with our new room style.
Fortunately, with a little bit of work you can easily transform these items of furniture. Below I have pulled together some of the easiest, and most affordable, ways to give your tired living room suite a fresh new look.
But, before I go into detail about how to do that, I must mention the other option, which is to rent a new suite. Taking this approach gives you the chance to save up until you can afford to buy your dream sofa. These days, it is really easy to rent furniture in London, and other parts of the UK. Renting before you buy is a great way to try out a new look, so that you do not end up spending a fortune on a new suite only to discover, too late, that you hate it.
Recover your suite
The best way to transform your sofa and chairs is to re-cover them. There are several ways to do this.
Invest in some throws
By far the simplest option is to buy some throws and use those. There are plenty available, so it is not hard to get the look you want. Should you be unlucky and not find a set that works for you, buying some fabric paints and creating your own designs is a good approach.
Buy some pre made covers
If you do not look the like the idea of using throws, you could buy some new covers instead. Again, there are several options. The cheapest way to do it is to buy a set of stretch covers, which are designed to closely fit most sizes and shapes of sofa. There are far more designs available than there used to be, so it is far easier to achieve a modern look, with stretch covers, than it used to be.
Get your suite re-upholstered
For those of you who own a good quality and comfortable sofa getting it re-upholstered is worth considering. Usually, this is not cheap, but if know you want to keep your suite for many years it can be a good investment.
Re-cover your suite yourself
If you do not mind a challenge you could always reupholster your couch yourself. On the surface it looks like quite a daunting task, in reality, if you break it down into its component parts it is not that complicated. There is plenty of advice available online that you can tap into to learn how to do it. For example, I have found a very good series of videos that show you step by step how to do it. All you need to do is to click this link and spend half an hour watching them to work out if it is something you want to do.
Get it professionally cleaned
If none of the above options appeal to you it could be that getting your couch professionally cleaned will make enough of a difference to how it looks. This is especially the case if you have a leather sofa.
