As many of you will know, last weekend I had the pleasure of attending the Britmums Live 2015 conference.  A great opportunity to catch up with old faces and meet some new blogging faces.  This year however, I decided to make a family trip of it and took hubs and Munch along for the ride.

Arriving on the friday, we were booked in City Road Travelodge until the Tuesday, so we could make the most of our stay. Like most, we took advantage of early and late check outs to maximise our trip.  We’d had Oyster cards delivered and even studied the tube maps.

Whilst I was at the conference, they both entertained themselves around London until I was done for the day.  I must admit, I was torn to spend time with them, so bailed the conference early on both days just to see their faces…sorry bloggers!

After Britmums Live rounded up, it was the start of our family trip.  We spent the first night catching up for dinner with Team Eat Your Heart Out at Wagamamas, a first for many of us.  I was really surprised at the kids menu and anything that is served with mini kid friendly chopsticks gets bonus points!  It was great that some of my blogging friends got to meet Munch and hubs whilst we were there.

Sunday was our first full day together and after breakfast at the hotel (where Munch loved the endless supply of sausages), we headed for the tube to tour the sights of London.  We got great weather again and despite my pregnant state I managed to make it round more sights than we had planned!  We ticked off Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, St James Park, Downing Street, London Eye, Piccadilly Circus and ofcourse Hamleys.  I don’t think we’d have been able to cover so much ground if it wasn’t for the tube.  I’m green with envy at such a well structured system.

Hamleys was an amazing experience.  From the second we stepped in the door, the magic just oozed from every corner.  We have nothing like this in Aberdeen, so walking into a wall of bubbles, getting to test out the toys and be greeted by such friendly faces just made our day.  I don’t think I’ve seen Munch smile so hard.

After such a hard tourist day, we just had dinner at the hotel followed by an early night.

Monday saw a trip to London Zoo.  Munch just loves animals, so much so we make regular trips to our local Pets at Home (the closest thing we have to a zoo).  After a tube ride to Camden Town we got drenched in the rain enroute to the zoo, where we were glad to be rescued by ponchos!

Thankfully the rain didn’t last though and after a spot of lunch, we spent the rest of the afternoon making our way round the animals.  I have to say Munch really enjoyed the penguins, butterflies and giraffes (who were being fed at the time we were there).  It was great to see her having so much fun and sharing such special memories with her.

We shared a family room at the Travelodge during our stay and although I had previously worried about sharing a room, we really had nothing to worry about and if anything holidays have helped us loosen up a bit as parents and learn to enjoy the moment.  Munch really flourished during our trip and I can’t wait to take her on another city break.  I’ve always fancied York, as a close friend went there last year and there is alot to see and do and I would definitely make the Travelodge our family base again.
