Living in the countryside certainly has its ups and downs..I’ve covered that before. However, one of the many things I’m thankful for is the outdoor living it provides for the family.
Now anyone who knows me will be laughing when I mention outdoor living…I’m not at all sporty. You won’t catch me running down country lanes, or cycling up the road. But what I do mean about outdoor living is the peace, the vast rolling fields full of sheep and highland cows and the open space…that’s just for us.
As a slave to the routine, we don’t attend any baby clubs or kids classes…you can always guarantee that they clash with a feed or a nap. It’s not a problem though. Instead we can explore the woods at the back of the house and never take the same trail twice…we can pick flowers, without upsetting anyone…play in the long grass and get lost with our imaginations. Dream up the best games to play together…stare up at the sky and spot the shapes in the passing clouds and I’m thankful every day that all this is right on our doorstep. All we need to do is boot up and step outside.
I’m excited about spending more and more time together as a family as we grow. Munch loves to be outside and I’d love to make it a regular thing to sleep out in a tent. It might sound corny, but I have visions of pitching up at the side of the house. Lighting a little camp fire and staying up and watching the stars.
Maybe it’s just a fantasy, maybe the girls will grow up and desire city living and that’s great…but for now, whilst the enjoyment for being outdoors is peaking, we’ll be making the most of it.
