For so long we have huddled up inside in sort sort of human hibernation throughout the cold months (which tends to be half the year in Aberdeenshire).  The unpredictable weather has raised my hopes (and the daffodils) quite a few times that spring might actually be here.  However I think the sun may have finally got the memo and has decided to make an appearance or two.

I’m not going to lie, I quite like winter.  I favour the clothing, the snuggles, the fires and cosy evenings indoors… but there is something about getting back outdoors that makes you feel a bit more alive as a family.  More connected, more free spirited and raring to cram as much fun into the weekends together as humanly possible.  We are a evening and weekend family.  I’m very lucky that my work is flexible and I get extra snippets of one on one time with the girls… but for the most part, due to work and school, it’s just the weekends. So for that time we are sellotaped to each other, we all go to classes together, food shopping together… no one is left out and I love that.

For the moment, we are making the most of our garden, chasing each other and getting used to having MM joining in now.  This time last year, she was just a baby and couldn’t really take part in the action.  So this is all new to us.  I’m excited for the warmer months to come too, as we can plan so much more outdoor activities.  We are lucky to be surrounded by amazing outdoor centres, National Trust properties and forest walks galore.  We are going to nail this country living lark this year…just you see!

It is Scotland though and as I have already witnessed, I fear that this period may be short lived, but I’m going to cherish it all the same and make the most of each sunny moment.  Let’s face it, who would have thought we’d be outdoors in February without a coat in Aberdeenshire?!  That in itself is practically unheard of!
