We are still chipping away at finishing off our family room. The never ending list of DIY and decor demands are somewhat daunting, but what can I say…life royally got in the way of this one. We are getting there though. If you read regularly you’ll know how painstaking the whole renovation process has been! We are now in the room, using it day to day, and I’m loving the flow and functionality of being open plan again…especially now that little MM is on the move!
One of the biggest items on our list of ‘to do’ was window coverings. We have 4 windows in this room and as it is in the original 18th century section, the windows were all rather ‘interesting’ sizes. Even more unusual was the way that the extremely deep recesses tapered out into the room at an angle. I had originally wanted shutters, however 2 of the windows are against a corner and so this would have affected the finished look when they were open.
After many a hour on pinterest, I decided to go for wooden venetian blinds from Clover & Thorne. They had a huge selection of slat colours and even the fabric tapes came in a variety of colours to suit. I was tempted to go for something more dark and moody, however as it’s quite a dark room we need all the help we can get…so white gloss it was!
We were given the option of what side we wanted the controls on and they even took care of the angled pelmet (due to our unusual windows), the service was absolutely perfect and quite truly made to measure.
The blinds themselves were easy to install and because our wooden windows are rather dark, the white really brightened up the room instantly. Although we don’t get many passers by, other than the odd cat, it’s nice to have some privacy without losing any light in the room.
I’m also rather excited that I can now start to dress the window sills with various bits and pieces, which is making the room come back to life again.
The room is finally coming together and the end is in sight…stick with us, the room reveal on this one is going to be rather epic!
Disclosure: We were sent products from Clover & Thorne, but all opinions are honest.
