I’m a little (a lot) bit obsessed with instagram and my newsfeed (much like my taste) varies between family, interiors, fashion and even the odd motivational flaylay quote. When I hit instagram, I hit it hard and there is nothing quite like discovering a feed that you can well and truly get lost in. February’s Instagram crush is one of them. The start of a New Year is synonymous with taking stock, setting goals and reflection. I try not to make resolutions per se, however one of my ‘goals’ or ambitions was to move with the times and dip my toe into the big scary world of vlogging on You Tube. I’ve been sharpening my video editing pencil since the last year and it’s something that I, bizarrely, quite enjoy. Nothing kills productivity quite like procrastination. Whether it’s social media, ‘recalling the time when…’ or the biggest one of all self doubt.
Now, I wrote a while ago about ‘giving myself a break‘ and I’ve yet to learn the art of this completely. I think deep down we are always our own worst enemy, when we should be our biggest advocate. This is especially hard when you are your business, because the big comparison always creeps in and if you’re not clever, can see you get completely off course….but that’s a whole other post!

I’m well and truly into what will be my 4th year at blogging and during that time it has grown from weekend hobby into a career for me. It’s strange, because although it’s now firmly a staple part of ‘what I do’ it always feels a bit surreal to say it and ofcourse to be doing something that ticks so many of ‘my ideal’ boxes makes me feel very humble and lucky.
It was a challenging time when I got made redundant 18 months ago… something that has affected many families in the North of Scotland due to the oil downturn. It was a darkness that sadly cast a shadow over what was also a very happy time in our family life, with little MM joining our family. The whole point of maternity leave is to get to know your new little person and adapt to a new way of life. I was very lucky to still be entitled to SMP, so that was a blessing.
